In Charlotte and the surrounding areas we are fortunate to have access to volunteer opportunities for the whole family. No matter what age your children are it’s never too early or late to get them involved. Volunteering is a great way to teach our kids about giving back and appreciating all the amazing gifts we have to share with others. Got Preschoolers? Start them young!
While children this age may not fully understand the concept of ‘volunteering’, they can still make a difference in someone’s day! Friendship Trays is a local organization that prepares and delivers meals to those in need. They are always looking for people who are willing to donate a few hours of time. Why not pick up a few meals and drop them off to families in need? What a great opportunity to teach your preschooler about giving to others. In addition to the food you provide, the infectious smile of a toddler will only add to the gift you bring.

Hands on Charlotte has been around for more than 25 years and provides a wide array of volunteer opportunities for the whole family. Kids as young as six can give their time in ways that are sure to make a difference in both their lives and the in the lives of those they visit. Activities are easy and fun for all involved! Why not visit a retirement center in Huntersville or Mooresville and play Bingo with the residents? Or, really get the entire family involved by bringing your beloved pet for a visit. It doesn’t take much….a conversation, hug or smile to make someone feel less lonely. What a great gift to give this holiday season! Teens on a mission!
As your kids become teenagers it seems harder and harder to make quality family time. Activities and friends fill up the calendar and some of us struggle to remain connected. A great way to be together, have fun, and do something meaningful is to volunteer with Habitat for Humanity. The Charlotte chapter has helped more than 1,200 families turn the dream of home ownership into a reality. If ‘DIY’ isn’t your thing, your family can always donate their time to the Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina. Especially around the holidays there is a strong need for families to help sort food and pack meals.
