In 2001, a group of community-minded residents of the Peninsula neighborhood founded  The Peninsula Community Foundation. The Foundation’s goal was and continues to be “To increase awareness of the significant needs of the population of North Mecklenburg County, and to raise money to distribute to those local charities that best address the un-met needs of the young, poor, distressed, elderly and/or handicapped in our community.”

 

The Peninsula Community Foundation recently gave away it’s millionth dollar,  proceeds of which have been contributed to 18 local charities for community needs.
